How to Play Rock Paper Scissors

Two steps and you are playing:

1

Choose a game mode — Best of 3, Best of 5, or Unlimited

2

Click Rock, Paper, or Scissors — the computer picks instantly and the result appears

In Best of 3 and Best of 5 mode the game tracks rounds and declares a series winner. Unlimited mode lets you play as long as you want with your session score tracked throughout.

Rock Paper Scissors Rules

There are only three rules — one for each matchup:

🪨

Rock crushes scissors

beats ✂️ Scissors

✂️

Scissors cuts paper

beats 📄 Paper

📄

Paper covers rock

beats 🪨 Rock

If both players choose the same option it is a tie — no points awarded and the round does not count toward the series in Best of 3 or Best of 5 mode.

Is There a Winning Strategy?

Against a truly random opponent — like this computer — no strategy can give you an edge. Each of the three choices wins exactly one third of the time when your opponent is picking at random.

In real-life Rock Paper Scissors against human opponents, psychology and pattern recognition matter. Humans are not truly random — most people unconsciously repeat their last winning move or change after a loss, creating exploitable patterns.

Against this tool, the best you can do is enjoy the streaks and have fun. The computer picks each choice with exactly 33.3% probability every single round — no memory of previous rounds, no bias toward any option.
